ALWFAV5 : A Line Which Forms a Volume 5 (2021)

Project:

Editorial Design

Roles:
Lead Designer 1/2
Production Member 1/5
We see leaning as the of diverging forces seeking shared stability and collaboration. When leaning, we defy structural integrity and we let vulnerability arise. As our practice leans on, through, into and towards a subject (and vice versa), we show and exercise care for the complexities of contemporary society.

We are interested in discussing leaning from a particular perspective: the encounter between care and radical transparency in design research. By using graphic design as a critical tool for investigation and divulgation, we build physical and conceptual support structures that provide the public with a route into the research areas we are contributing to.

SEMBIOSIS: A Multidimensional Investigation of Ecology (2021)

Project:

MA Graphic Media Design
Final Major Project
Boardgame

Focussed on AI narratives, SEMBIOSIS recognises the narrow binary dystopic/utopic nature of these narratives and adopts symbiosis as a critique to diversify them. By analysing narratives located within popular press, a database of symbiotic terms are categorised under four types of symbiotic behavioural dynamic relationships:

mutualism (collaborators)
parasitism (parasites)

predation (predators)
competition (competitors)

By creating a database of symbiotic terms and defamiliarising them using anagrams, SEMBIOSIS aims to empower the public to engage with these narratives while gaining access to tools needed to challenge their assumed inevitability. SEMBIOSIS uses the methodology of defamiliarising language using anagrams to adopt a game strategy and spark collaborations between participants. As participants work together to retrieve the symbiotic terms hidden within the anagrams, they follow by sparking discussions and debates surrounding the nature of the symbiotic behaviour, whilst referring to the symbiotic gradient in front of them. This symbiotic grid acts as the board within the game while using a gradient to recognise the nuances of interspecies relationships.

Blurred Beliefs (2021)

Project:
Visual Essay
Blurred Beliefs stemmed from an investigation into the dynamic interplay between informational landscapes and ‘truth’. This visual essay explores the ways repetition has infiltrated our understanding of truth while pointing to how repitition is being exploited in new informational landscapes to inherit the aura of truth.

Egoic Mind (2020)

Project:
BA Graphic Communication Design
Final Major Project

3D/2D Short Film
This film takes on a psychoanalytical theme, while exploring the concepts brought about by Carl Jung, Socrates, and the Buddhist teachings of duality. This film intends to ponder the credibility of our minds when filled with desire and meaning, fuelled by the ego. This film was made as a reaction to the Western idealisation of a capitalistic mind that ends our identity at the stage of thought.

Cookie Rings (2020)

Project:
Packaging

Yuno approached me to design the packagining for their new cereal product, Cookie Rings. As they wanted their design to be playful yet approachable to both kids and adults, creating a design that was a good balance was crucial. A mixture of both playful and clean design allowed the brand to continue to represent their identity while branching towards a potential larger market. The juxtaposition of the playful back and the clean front embodies both worlds, where the whole family can enjoy and appreaciate the flavours within.
